Job Description

Grow Your Practice. Strengthen Family Outcomes. - Fixed Term, Full-time contract ending 30th June 2027

Are you looking to further develop and use your case management skills while making a meaningful difference in the lives of children, young people and families?

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Family Liaison Officer to support adolescents aged 10-14 and their families who are disengaged, or at risk of disengaging, from school. This role provides an excellent opportunity for a current team member to expand their experience working alongside schools, families and community services to improve engagement, wellbeing and long-term outcomes.

The Opportunity

As a Family Liaison Officer, you will work closely with students enrolled at Nambour State College and their families, providing practical support, case management, advocacy and family-focused interventions.

This role is ideal for someone looking to use and build their skills in family intervention, stakeholder engagement, case coordination and community-based support while working within a collaborative, outcomes-focused program.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Manage the client journey using a client-centred and strengths-based approach.
  • Receive referrals, conduct assessments and coordinate case management plans.
  • Support at-risk children, young people and families through advocacy, information and practical assistance.
  • Deliver individual and group-based life skills and personal development programs.
  • Provide parenting support, wellbeing interventions and practical in-home assistance.
  • Facilitate connections to education, health, community and support services.
  • Build strong partnerships with schools, government and non-government agencies.
  • Support families to access services and opportunities that improve outcomes and engagement.
  • Maintain professional records, case notes and reports in line with organisational and funding requirements.
  • Participate in community networks and represent the organisation in relevant forums and meetings.

Desired Skills and Experience

What We're Looking For.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • A relevant Diploma qualification in Human Services, Mental Health, Community Services, Counselling, Family Therapy, Family and Youth Intervention, or a related field.
  • At least three years' experience working with children, young people and families experiencing complex needs.
  • Experience supporting clients facing complex challenges using evidence-based and family-centred approaches.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, child safety requirements and risk assessment practices.
  • Understanding of contemporary practice frameworks, including the Strengthening Families, Protecting Children framework and Safe & Together principles.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

This role offers the chance to:

  • Utilise your case management and family support expertise.
  • Develop & strengthen your experience working alongside schools and multidisciplinary stakeholders.
  • Strengthen your skills in assessment, intervention planning and family engagement.
  • Expand your professional network across education, community and government sectors.
  • Make a direct and lasting impact on the wellbeing, safety and success of young people and their families.

Key Selection Criteria

Please address the following three questions in your cover letter, providing concise, example-based responses:

1. Describe a situation where you delivered client-centred case management for a person or family with complex needs. What approaches did you take to keep their wants and needs at the centre of your support, and what was the outcome?

2. Provide an example of a time you worked with a child, young person or family experiencing complex circumstances. How did you build rapport while maintaining professional boundaries, and how did your approach support positive engagement?

3. Describe an example of how you applied relevant legislation, policies or service standards (such as Child Safety requirements) in a previous role. How did this influence your decision-making or professional report writing, and what was the result?

Ready for Your Next Step?

If you're looking for an opportunity to broaden your experience, strengthen your practice and support positive outcomes for children and families, we'd love to hear from you.

Please submit your resume and a cover letter addressing the three Selection Criteria questions.
