We're looking for a detail-oriented and customer-focused Payroll Officer to join our Finance team. If you enjoy working with numbers, thrive on accuracy, and take pride in delivering exceptional service, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
As Payroll Officer, you'll play a key role in the accurate and timely delivery of payroll services across the organisation. You'll support end-to-end payroll administration, maintain employee records, assist with reconciliations, and provide responsive support to employees and managers on payroll-related matters.
Working closely with the Payroll Coordinator and broader Finance team, you'll help ensure payroll processes are compliant, efficient, and delivered with a high level of accuracy and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
Process payroll transactions including new starters, employment changes, leave requests, allowances, deductions and terminations.
Support fortnightly payroll processing to ensure employees are paid accurately and on time.
Maintain payroll records and employee data within payroll systems.
Apply relevant awards, payroll legislation, taxation and superannuation requirements during payroll processing.
Assist with payroll reconciliations, reporting and compliance activities.
Respond to payroll enquiries from employees and managers in a professional and timely manner.
Investigate payroll discrepancies and assist with issue resolution.
Support payroll audits, record-keeping requirements and statutory reporting activities.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance payroll processes and service delivery.
Collaborate with colleagues across Payroll, Finance and the wider organisation to ensure service excellence.
Desired Skills and Experience
About You
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
Essential Experience
Previous experience in a Payroll Officer, Payroll Administrator, Accounts/Payroll or similar payroll support role.
Experience processing payroll transactions in a highly accurate and deadline-driven environment.
Working knowledge of payroll systems and payroll administration practices.
Strong attention to detail with proven ability to manage sensitive employee information confidentially.
Experience reconciling payroll data and identifying discrepancies.
Excellent communication skills and a customer-service approach when responding to employee enquiries.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
Desirable Experience
Experience interpreting modern awards, enterprise agreements and payroll compliance requirements.
Experience within a not-for-profit, community services, healthcare or similarly regulated environment.
Relevant qualifications in Payroll, Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a related discipline.
